About Us

We realise that it can be a little intimidating to attend a new church, or even to come to church for the first time. Whatever the reason is you have clicked on our page, we're glad you're here! Below you will find some information about us, who we are and what we do. You may want to take a virtual tour to get to know us a little bit. If you'd like to find out further information, please do contact us; we'd love to hear from you!

Our Story

We are a non-denominational charismatic church that began in early 1970's as part of the “house church” movement, in the home of Dr Tony Waterson in Queens Road, Richmond. At that time, our congregation was called "Queens Road Christian Fellowship".

As the church grew, we moved to a school in Kew for many years and changed our name to "Church of the Living God" in around 1988.

We now meet at Orleans Park School, Richmond Road, Twickenham, where we have been since 2016.

Associations

Over the years we have built associations with similar-minded churches in different countries. They are based in:
  • Indiana (Pennsylvania, USA)
  • Trier (Germany)
  • Calgary (Canada)
  • Kollam (Kerala, India)

You can read more about our associations here.

We also work with local churches in our area; and we are passionate about sharing the Gospel and its transforming work in the lives of the people we serve.

Missions

Our missions work includes:
  • street evangelism
  • community outreach through the Whitton Food Bank
  • running courses by Christians Against Poverty
  • and working with a local school.

You can read more about our missions here.

What to expect

Can I just turn up?

Yes, you can. If you come within the first half hour of the beginning of our service, usually someone will be outside to greet you and you are welcome to sit anywhere you wish; there are no reserved seats.

What are the meetings like?

The main meeting starts at 10:30am with our praise team leading the congregation in song & worship. You can join in or just listen.
Following this special time of praise & worship, there is a short time of announcements and offering. (We take a collection to allow especially church members to contribute financially, but we do not expect visitors to give.)
Once announcements are made, we usually send the children into their Sunday school classes, not releasing them without a prayer of blessing.
The main part of the meeting consists of either our pastor, a guest speaker, or other church members bringing a message.
Our services last about 1 hour to 1 1/4 hours.

Location

We do not have a church building but we are located in a school. When you arrive, ushers in high visibility jackets will direct you to the Sports Hall in the Attenborough Building. There are also signs to point you in the right direction to our meeting place. The sports hall is located in the ground floor of Attenborough building.
We also use additional rooms in the same building for Sunday School meetings, etc.
Please be aware that Orleans Park school is also used by a number of other people doing sports, chess clubs and a "School of rock".

Communion

We tend to serve communion once a month.

Disabled facilities

The access to the building caters for disabled people and there are disabled toilet facilities.

Parking

There are two car parks, so in the majority of cases parking should not be an issue.

Meeting duration

The meeting runs from 10:30 am to 12:15 pm approx.

Refreshments

After the service from 12:15 am to 12:45 pm tea and coffee and snacks are provided in a canteen area.

What should I wear when coming to a meeting?

There is no dress code. Some people are dressed more formally than others, but there is no requirement. Everyone is welcome.

Sunday School

There is a Sunday School facility that runs from about 11:00 am to about 12:10 pm. The Sunday School caters for kids from 6 months to 13 years. Parents or guardians will be asked to sign a consent form giving contact information and a brief summary of any medical issues we need to be aware of.

Prayer meeting

We have a prayer meeting for those interested, which runs from 10:00 am to 10:25 am. We pray for healing once every two weeks.

Health and Safety issues

We tend to take health and safety, security, safeguarding and fire safety seriously, so there may be checks done from time to time. These are primarily internal procedures to protect everyone and hopefully prevents unnecessary incidents from happening.

Recordings

We live stream and record our services and meetings. You can find recorded audio and video services here.
